♦ About the Poet - Edgar Albert Guest (1881-1959) 
Edgar Albert Guest was a British-born U.S. writer whose poems were widely read during the first half of the 20th century. Edgar Albert Guest was born in England. His first poem was published at the age of seventeen. He has written more than 11,000 poems. Guest has been called "the poet of the people." Most often, his poems were fourteen lines long and presented a deeply sentimental view of everyday life.

A friend’s presence makes our life more secure because they support and help us in difficult times. A good friend is deeply interested in our well-being and success. Our welfare is their chief concern. Life with them is double-guarded and secure.

4. How does the poem encourage us to be good friends?
The poem encourages us to be good friends by reminding us to listen, understand, support and help each other in good and bad times. And also be loyal to each other in any situation.
