Arnold Munk (1858-1957) was born in Hungary. This story is his first published version of the fairy tale. He chose the pen name Watty Piper.

The Little Train carried every kind of toy for boys and girls. And it carried good things to eat too. The Little Train carries things to the other side of the mountain to bring happiness to the boys and girls. 

♦ Will the Shiny New Engine help the Little Train?
No, the Shiny New Engine did not help the Little Train. The Shiny New Engine said that it is not his job to pull toys and that he is designed to carry people in comfort. 

♦ The Shiny New Engine was a bit friendly. But he did not help the Little Train. Why?
The Shiny New Engine did not help the Little Train because he was designed to carry people in cars and he did not see himself as a helper of toy-carrying trains. 

♦ The Big Strong Engine puffed away without a word. What was the reason?
The Big Strong Engine puffed away without a word because he did not want to help the Little Train. He says, he did not pull toys, only pull cars full of heavy loads and big trucks and has no time to help the little train.
♦ Will the Little Blue Engine help the Little Train?
Yes, the Little Blue Engine helped the Little Train. 

♦ What would happen if the Little Blue Engine did not help the Little Train?
If the Little Blue Engine did not help the Little Train, the boys and girls on the other side of the mountain would not have any toys or good food.

♦ How does the Little Blue Engine differ from the other engines?
The Little Blue Engine differ from the other engines. It was not very big and did not pull trains and it just worked in the yards and never been over the mountain. 

♦ What are the qualities that you find in the Little Blue Engine?
The Little Blue Engine has qualities such as Compassion, Empathy, Determination, Kindness and Positivity.

♦ Why did the dolls and toys start smiling and clapping?
The dolls and toys started smiling and clapping because they were filled with hope and joy as the Little Blue Engine began to pull the Little Train. 

♦ Why does the Little Blue engine say ‘I think I can’?
The Little Blue Engine says "I think I can" to express her determination and belief in her ability to overcome the challenge of pulling the Little Train over the mountain. 

♦ Which character in this story do you like the most? Why?
The character I like the most in this story is the Little Blue Engine, because of its Kindness, Compassion and Determination to help the Little Train.

The Little Blue Engine helped the Little Train reach the other side of the mountain. Have you ever helped someone in trouble? Write a short paragraph about your experience.
Yes, I have helped someone in trouble. One day, I was walking home from school when I saw a young boy crying beside the road. He had fallen off his bicycle and hurt his knee. I immediately rushed to help him. I cleaned his wound with a tissue and applied a bandage from my first aid kit. Then, I helped him fix his bicycle and made sure he was okay to ride home. He was very thankful for my help

The little train carried many things. List them below.

The Little Train tried hard. But her wheels just would not turn. The clown and the animals climbed out of their cars. They tried to push the Little Train. But she could not move. What would the Little Train think then?
Oh no, what's wrong with me? I am unable to move. Why won't my wheels turn? I want to reach the other side of the mountain. The children are waiting for me. I have so many good things to deliver to the children on the other side of the mountain. I want to make them happy, but I can't move forward. What can I do now? I am so worried and disappointed, and hoping for a solution. I am so helpless and frustrated too. Maybe someone will help me.

♦ Activity 4
The Little Blue Engine helped the Little Train and she continued the journey. On the way, the Little Train happened to meet the Shiny New Engine. He was surprised to see the Little Train. What could be the conversation between the Little Train and the Shiny New Engine?

• Shiny New Engine: ''Oh!, I'm surprised to see you on the tracks. How did you manage to get over the mountain?"

• Little Train: "I met a friend who believed in me and helped me reach the other side. The Little Blue Engine showed me that even the smallest engine can achieve great things."

• Shiny New Engine: "The Little Blue Engine, you say? That tiny thing?"

• Little Train: "Yes, she might be small, but her heart is big. She proved that it's not the size of the engine that matters, but the willingness to help others."

• Shiny New Engine: "I must admit, I feel a bit ashamed. I refused to help you when you needed it. Can you forgive me for that?"

• Little Train: "Of course, I forgive you. But remember, sometimes it's not about how grand or important we think we are. It's about lending a hand to those in need, no matter how small the gesture might seem."

• Shiny New Engine: "You're absolutely right. Thank you for the lesson. If you ever need any help in the future, please don't hesitate to ask. I promise I'll do my best to assist you."

• Little Train: "Thank you, Shiny New Engine. I appreciate your change of heart. We all have something to learn from each other."

• Toy Animals and Dolls: "Our engine is not working. Can you pull us over the mountain?"

• Big Strong Engine: (Refusing) "I don't pull toys. I pull cars full of heavy loads. I'm sorry, but I can't help you."

• Big Strong Engine: (Leaves) "I've got important work to do. Goodbye." (Puffs away)

• Clown: (Spots the Little Blue Engine) "Look! Here comes another engine. Maybe this one will help us!" (Waves)
