Answer:
Answer:
• Water:- Water is one of the most indispensable factors for the existence of flora and fauna of the earth. It is believed that life evolved first in the water. If the water disappears from the earth, the life on the earth will also disappear.
• Soil:- Vegetations would not exist without soil. If there is no vegetation, there will no animals.
• Petroleum:- The existence of transport, industry and even the economy is based on petroleum. If petroleum disappears, transport, industries and the economy will collapse.
• Forest:- Forests play a vital role in maintaining the equilibrium amount of oxygen and carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. If the forests disappeared, the equilibrium of the environment will destroy.
20. What is resource conservation?
Answer: Resource conservation is the controlled use and protection of natural resources
21. What is the fundamental principle of resource Conservation
Answer: Judicious and careful use of resources as well as giving enough time for them to replenish and conserve the natural resources." This is the fundamental principle of resource conservation.
22. Discuss how the situation shown in each of the pictures contribute to resource conservation.
• Picture 1: Cycling -The use of fossil fuels such as petrol and diesel will reduce. There will be no atmospheric pollution.

• Utilise maximum solar energy
33. 'River is a resource.' Do you agree with this? Substantiate your answer.
Answer: River is a natural resource. Those things which are useful to man are called resources. River becomes a resource when is utilised for irrigation, transportation, producing electricity etc.
Let us assess
1. Raghavan is a farmer practising traditional methods of farming using bio manure, ploughing the field using cattle, etc. List out the types of natural resources Raghavan makes use of. Also define natural resource.
Answer: The types of natural resources Raghavan makes use of are Sunlight, Soil, Water, Wind, Cattle etc.
Natural resource: The things directly obtained from nature and are useful to man are called natural resources
2. Categorise the following natural resources into biotic and abiotic.
Forest, sunlight, fish, wind, cattle, water
Answer:
Biotic: fish, cattle, Forest
Abiotic: sunlight, wind, water
3. Given below are the features of two motor cars. Identify the characteristics of each and categorise in the following format.
Car A - Works on solar energy
Car B - Works on petrol
Characteristics:
1. Does not cause atmospheric pollution
2. Uses non-renewable resource as fuel
3. Causes increase in the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere.
4. This kind of cars are largely in use
5. Such cars are not used much
6. Uses renewable resource as fuel
Car A | Car B |
---|---|
• Does not cause atmospheric pollution • Such cars are not used much • Uses renewable resource as fuel | • Uses non-renewable resource as fuel • Causes increase in the level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. • This kind of cars are largely in use |
Which of these cars is nature friendly? Substantiate your answer.
Answer: Car A which works on solar energy is nature friendly. It uses solar energy instead of petrol that is, it uses renewable resources to work. It does not cause atmospheric pollution. Therefore it is nature friendly.
4. Make inferences by analysing the statement 'We have loaned the resources from the future generations'. Also, suggest any five measures for resource conservation.
Answer: The above sentence clearly says the current situation. Nature gifts everything to us. Natural resources are essential for our day-to-day life. But when we use resources without any limit it causes exhaustion of resources. All these resources are needed for our future generations as well. But now resources are recklessly used by men without conserving them for future generations. so we have to conserve resources for the future generation.
Five measures for resource conservation
• Use fuels that do not cause atmospheric pollution
• Practice water conservation measures
• Depend more on non-conventional resources such as sunlight, wind etc.
• Prevent deforestation
• Use resources only if essential
